CONCEPT

freq_wave, presented by Fulcrum Arts, transformed the interior of the Hooker Telescope (fun fact — the world's largest telescope from 1917-49) with an immersive visual and sound installation based on field recordings from the Pacific Ocean, calling attention to ecological warming of the ocean wrought by the “human era.”

The work reflects shifting vibrational frequencies within our warming oceans, signaling an urgent call to action. Public audiences were transported through a tactile, aesthetic experience that bridged an intimate connection to nature through art and science.

The producers were unable to fully power the activation using house power, so SOLARPUNKS supplied solar-charged batteries to augment their system during the week-long installation.

“In a pinch, SOLARPUNKS provided us with a power solution that was not only portable, eco friendly, and cost effective, but the ONLY viable solution for our event. We had organized an immersive sound and light installation inside the Hooker Telescope at Mt. Wilson Observatory.

It was only late in the process when we realized the facilities could not provide enough power for both the lighting system and 12 channel Meyer PA. Given the unique location, the only power supply that would have worked was the SOLARPUNKS battery.
