CONCEPT

We supplied a film shoot by American Film Institute’s Corrine McGarey (producer), Hannah Platzer (cinematographer), Max Olson (writer/director) and more with renewable energy over the course of close to two weeks.

We were able to fully replace the loud noise and strong stench of diesel generators with electric generators that allowed us avoid fossil fuel usage & minimize carbon emissions. The generators were fueled by photons generated from our creative community microgrid and backed up by grid power.

Since we were unable to get photovoltaic (PV) connectors from the battery manufacturers, we constructed our own to be able to take advantage of the renewable energy from our photovoltaic array (which is free for any creatives to use). Due to the quick turnaround, we supplanted the generators with electricity from the grid while we waited for the PV materials to arrive (which also served as an additional layer of power security).

We worked closely with the team to design an efficiently distributed energy plan with enough headroom based on their shoot schedule & gear list. We were also able to accommodate one extra day of filming at another location.

Massive thanks to Corrine and her team for taking an innovative risk in allowing us to fully power their film shoot with electric generators in the largest configuration that Hollywood has seen to date, moving us one step closer to eliminating fossil fuels from the film & entertainment industry.

SYSTEMS PROVIDED

(4) Portable Electric Voltstack 30k Electric Generators, each with 27kW / 240V three-phase inverter and 80kWh battery storage, for total of 320 kWh battery storage

(2) 3kW inverters + (8) 3 kWh batteries for a total of 24 kWh battery storage, used for production operations, hair / make-up and powering a scissor lift

48kW photovoltaic panel array (SOLARPUNKS Creative Community Microgrid)
